Paris, France, March 2019 – Partners in the European MATCH-SPORT project (Make Amateur Sport Tolerant and Eliminate Discrimination) for the prevention of discrimination in amateur sport took part in the two-day kickoff meeting on 26-27 February, at Efus offices in Paris.
The objectives of the project are to analyse the phenomenon of discriminatory violence in amateur sport, to ensure that everyone can access sport, and to promote local partnerships and the exchange of experiences among local partners.

Led by Efus, MATCH-SPORT gathers 9 partners – the cities of Liege (BE), Lisbon (PT), Loano and Maranello (IT), Nea Propontida (GR), and Valence (FR), as well as the experts of Europaische Sportacademie Land Brandenburg (the ‘Brandenburg Sport Academy’, DE), Unione Italiana Sport per Tutti (the ‘Italian Union for Sport for All’, IT), and the Portuguese ministry for Internal Administration (PT). Six European countries are represented in the consortium: Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and Portugal.
> Three phases
The project is organised in three phases. The first will be dedicated to analysing the issue of discriminatory violence in amateur sport in the six countries represented in the consortium (documentary research, questionnaires, interview with the experts) and creating practice sheets on the initiatives carried out in the partner cities.
The second phase will be dedicated to creating a training module for sport clubs and associations, which can be adapted to the specificities of each of the project’s partner cities.
In the third phase, a pilot action will be implemented in each partner city with the support of an expert from Efus.
Finally, a dissemination event will be organised during the European Week of Sport in September 2020 featuring sport activities and conferences and gathering representatives of the project’s partner cities as well as groups of young people.
