Aubervilliers

1. General Information

Aubervilliers is located in the North East of Paris. It is the fourth biggest municipality of the department. It has a young population: 41, 6% inhabitants are under thirty years old and 27% are under twenty years old. For a long time Aubervilliers was a rural area, like many other municipalities in the Parisian inner suburbs. At the end of the 19th century, the life of the little market town was already inextricably linked to growing industrialization. Belgians, inhabitants of Lorraine, Alsace and Brittany, Spaniards and Italians came in successive waves. Big industries forged the identity of the city for several decades and left a legacy of work and know-how. This memory is the greatest monument that past residents could have left to today’s population.
