1. General Information :
Poitiers is a French commune and the administrative capital (préfecture) of the La Vienne department and the Poitou-Charentes region. Poitiers has the largest population of all the cities in the Poitou-Charentes region, followed by La Rochelle (77,196 inhabitants), Niort (58,576 inhabitants) and Angoulême (42,669 inhabitants). Poitiers is at the head of the first Picto-charentaise conurbation community (139,759 inhabitants in 2008), situated as it is at the centre of an urban area of 225 707 inhabitants, making it the most important area in the region in terms of population.

Meeting of the Poitou-Charentes Local Security and Crime Prevention Contract coordinators: In 2013, the “Villes au Carré” (intercommunal centre for social cohesion) worked in partnership with the city of Poitiers to organise a regional meeting between the crime prevention coordinators from the local authorities of the Poitou-Charentes region. The session was chaired by Gabriel Sciamma, a consultant in crime prevention and security.
The Urban Social Cohesion Contract (CUCS, according to its French acronym), which has replaced the City Contract, aims to implement the conurbation community of Poitiers’ urban social development project. The contract is valid until 2014.
