Paris, October 2018 – A new project funded by the European Commission, “Cutting Crime Impact” (CCI), in which Efus is a partner, will start on 1 October. Its objective is to enable police and relevant local and national authorities, particularly security policymakers, to reduce the impact of crime and, where possible, prevent crime from occurring in the first place.

The project focuses on crimes that impact negatively upon citizens and their communities – including violent assault, robbery, burglary and anti-social behaviour – and the feeling of insecurity that they can create. It will develop bespoke support tools, resources and guidance materials (that will enable police forces and policymakers in Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK and Portugal to implement effective practices.
Efus will contribute in particular to developing tools relevant to the feeling of insecurity. It will also advocate widespread adoption of effective prevention approaches to this type of crime, which have significant impact on local communities.
Apart from Efus and the University of Salford, the project partners are the Greater Manchester police (GB), the national police of the Netherlands, the police of Estonia, the Lisbon municipal police (PT), the police of the Land of Lower Saxony (Landeskriminalamt Niedersachsen, DE), the department (ministry) of the Interior of the autonomous government of Catalonia (ES), the research institute on public policies DSP Groep bv (NL), the Rijks University of Groningen (NL), the German Prevention Institute ((Deutscher Präventionstag Institut, DE), and the IT company Globaz SA (PT).
