The rise of artificial intelligence is transforming all sectors, including the work of local and regional authorities. This AI revolution presents both an opportunity and an urgent need for cities and regions to train their teams, equipping them with AI knowledge and tools. A collective reflection is also needed to explore how European cities and regions can integrate AI ethically and responsibly, ensuring that its implementation benefits all citizens transparently and efficiently.
This project aims to train 175 officials and elected representatives of European cities from 6 countries: France, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and Belgium. Participants will gain essential AI skills for urban security and foster innovation in urban governance across European cities.
The training program will follow a hybrid model, comprising four online sessions and one in-person session, all delivered in the respective national language of each country. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate validating their newly acquired AI knowledge and skills.
During the two years of the projects, 7 training cohorts will be conducted:
- 2025: two training sessions for French municipalities (March- April), (October-November) and then for Spanish municipalities (October-November).
- 2026: Training sessions for municipalities from other countries (Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium)
- December 2026: Final online conference to conclude the project.
Exact dates of the training will be updated and confirmed.
Throughout the project, a steering committee on “AI for Cities” will be established under the Innovation and Technology Working Group of Efus. This committee will bring together participants and AI experts, fostering collaborative discussions on building responsible AI expertise for local and regional authorities. The program will also feature regular web conferences to ensure inclusive and ongoing dialogue.
DuriCities and regions members from the six eligible countries are invited to apply once applications open on the Efus website and social media channels. Participating cities must demonstrate a commitment to engaging fully in all training sessions.
This program is primarily aimed at professionals working in security and prevention services—such as municipal police, civil security, and risk prevention—although other municipal staff may also participate. The diversity of participants (gender, territory, position…) will also be taken into account.
The training program is fully funded, with no costs for participants.
