The municipality of Matosinhos and Efus are organising, as part of a series of conferences, a two-day seminar on “Views on violence within the family context », that will take place on 17 and 18 March 2016. The objective is to gather the existing knowledge on this topic, based on national and international experiences.
Violence in intimate relationships is still an undeniable social epidemic that requires utmost attention. In order to fight it, we need well designed and structured policies. It is therefore crucial to gather the existing
knowledge in this area to better understand and monitor the evolution of this
phenomenon as well as share interventions and tools in order to create guidelines
for policies and local intervention models.
The municipality of Matosinhos has been promoting strategies to prevent violence
and protect victims for over 10 years, notably by deploying local field workers. Still, we acknowledge the urgent need to rethink this modus operandi and establish a better network policy integrating simultaneously: control programmes, interventions with perpetrators, victim empowerment projects, assistance to families at risk, and effective programmes of social education for non-violence.
The purpose of this seminar is to gather national and international knowledge and promote a critical reflexion on the current field practices, reflecting on their strengths and limitations in order to better plan future local actions. Sharing existing national and international knowledge on intervention models with
victims of violence are key and important elements for success.
Participation in the conference is free of charge but registration is mandatory.
