1. General Informations:

Gelsenkirchen, located in the Ruhr-Area in the Region of North Rhine-Westfalia, was one of the most important mining cities in the 20th century. Today, the city is a centre for sciences, services, and production, and widely recognized for its high performance infrastructure. Moreover, it is known for its football club Schalke 04, which has carried off successes in national as well as international competitions and whose matches attract an audience of more than 60,000.

The city of Gelsenkirchen has a citywide crime prevention council and 14 local councils in which representatives from the city administration, law enforcement agencies, civil society and the private sector cooperate to improve citizen security. The council includes working groups on topics such as prevention of youth delinquency, prevention through urban design, victim support or the prevention of road traffic accidents.
