Throwback to the 2024 Security, Democracy and Cities conference!

Brussels, Belgium, March 2024 – After three days of intense debate on more than twenty urban security issues, the eighth Security, Democracy and Cities conference, organised in Brussels by the European Forum for Urban Security (Efus) in partnership with safe.brussels, came to a close on the 22nd of March.

Organised every three years by Efus in a different city in its network, this conference is a unique opportunity to bring together hundreds of urban security stakeholders from all over Europe, as well as from other regions of the world, to encourage exchanges and mutual learning in the field of urban safety and crime prevention.

Topics covered

The prevention of drugs and trafficking, security technologies including artificial intelligence, crisis management, the security of public spaces, mental health in public spaces and sexual and gender-based violence were some of the key themes of the two and a half days of discussions.

The conference also provided an opportunity to highlight the many inspiring practices of cities, local authorities and associations, particularly during the field visits which enabled participants to discover a dozen prevention schemes in Brussels.

The reports of all the sessions are available here.
