Mulhouse

1. General Information :

Mulhouse is a French city of the Upper Rhine, located in the south of the Alsace region and in the Haut-Rhin department. It is the 25th biggest urban area in France in terms of population, of which 54% live in the suburbs. There are almost 280,000 residents living in its metropolitan area, making up almost 40% of the Haut-Rhin department. It is a very cosmopolitan city; indeed there are 136 different nationalities listed among the residents of Mulhouse, called ‘Mulhousiens’ in French. The city is only a few minutes away from Germany and Switzerland, and Mulhouse has important ties with these countries.

News from the City:

When the former Mayor of Mulhouse, Jean-Marie Bockel, was the Secretary of State for Justice, he wrote a report on juvenile crime prevention in 2010. In January 2011 he was assigned a 6 month mission on crime prevention by the Prime Minister. The city of Mulhouse is one of the first cities in France to have set up a commission on situational prevention.
