The European Commission (Justice and Home Affairs Department) organised the 1st meeting of the European Forum on the Prevention of Organised Crime on 17th and 18th May 2001 in Brussels (Belgium). The field of action was petty and serious crime, with the aim of increasing contact between the relevant actors and launching cooperation programmes. The main theme of this conference was cross-border illegal and economic trafficking (in particular the trafficking of human beings for sexual exploitation).
