Paris, July 2017 – Efus will submit in November the JUST II project, which will follow up on Just and Safer Cities for All (JUST, 2016-2017), in the framework of the “Rights, Equality and Citizenship” programme of the European Commission’s Directorate General Justice.
The priority of JUST II will be to support local authorities to effectively combat xenophobia, racism, homophobia and all other forms of discriminatory violence and intolerance in their territory.
The main objectives of this project are:
- to support local authorities in combating all forms of discriminatory violence and intolerance, thus improving relations among local communities;
- to enhance the capacities of local and regional authorities to include the fight against discrimination in their local security policy and improve cooperation in this area with local stakeholders.
JUST II will notably implement pilot projects in the partner cities, assisted by Efus and experts, and disseminate them through a showcase event and a publication that will present the results of these projects and include a toolkit on how to put in place local strategies against discriminatory violence.
It follows up on JUST, which was launched in September 2015 to raise awareness among European local authorities on discriminatory violence and to map out existing practices developed across Europe. This project is now in its final phase and will conclude at the end of the year with the release of the final publication and a conference that will be held at the same time as the Efus “Security, Democracy & Cities” international conference, in November in Barcelona (Spain).
