The Norwegian National Crime Prevention Council (Det kriminalitetsforebyggende rad) was established in 1980 and focussed originally on technical security measures. During the last years the efforts of the Council have been primarily focussed on children and young people. Nowadays the Council has representatives from academic institutions, local communities, youth organisations, the police, prison service, public prosecutor, insurance industry, press and from the central ministries that have crime prevention on the agenda. This reflects the co-ordinating function of the Council in relation to crime prevention. The Council’s administration is attached to the Norwegian Ministry of Justice.
