Dirk Wurm

Deputy Mayor of Augsburg, Germany

Dirk Wurm is Deputy Mayor of Augsburg, a German City with around 300.000 inhabitants. He is a key member of Augsburg’s very active local Crime Prevention Council (CPC). Within the CPC a large multi-agency network has been built up since 2011 to tackle the phenomena of religiously justified radicalization. The goal of this network is to raise awareness about radicalisation among all the stakeholders in the city in order to empower and educate them to be able to recognise signs of radicalisation and be aware of the range of services they can contact when this happens. In 2017 the network focused on the role of women in radicalisation and developed preventive projects for girls, for example a film project within the EU-Project LIAISE that contained counter-narratives against Daesh propaganda.
