Mayor of Schaerbeek and President of the Belgium Forum for Urban Security

Economist by trade, Bernard Clerfayt has been the Mayor of Schaerbeek since 2000. During his 17 years as Mayor he has carried out many projects in the following fields: cleaning, urban renovation, teaching, housing, employment etc.  But this 135,000-strong community continues to face numerous challenges that require concrete solutions.

As Mayor of Schaerbeek and President of the Belgian Forum for Urban Security, ensuring safety and preventing socio-economic polarisation and violent radicalisation are his central concerns.

Bernard is also Regional Deputy and Vice-President of Brussels Parliament; he is heavily engaged in issues related to urban development.
