Paris, April 2015 – The partners of the European project Sport + on crime prevention through sport, which is co-financed by the European Commission and led by Efus, took part in the first coordination meeting in Paris, on 12-13 March.
Sport + seeks to identify promising practices of crime prevention through sport developed throughout Europe, and will organise the first European Prize for Social Integration Through Sport. Composed of five categories, the prize will distinguish promising local initiatives and will organise Sports Days in each of the five winning cities. In addition, the project will shoot video clips on each of the five winning practices.
Efus and the project partners – the EuroFan association (Belgium), the University of Saragossa (Spain), the Italian Forum for Urban Security (FISU), the Netherlands Institute for Sports and Physical Activity and the Research Institute of the Portuguese national police – worked on the content of the prize and on the means to publicise the initiative, in particular with international and European organisations such as FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) and UEFA (Union of European Football Associations).
A support committee will be created to contribute to the communication campaign and to express an opinion on the applicants to the prize.
The call for applications will be published early June and the deadline for submissions will be on 6 November 2015. The call will include information on how to submit an application and on selection criteria. However, any local authority, association or institution wishing to apply may already contact Efus.
Messages on crime prevention through sport will be disseminated during the Euro 2016 tournament, which will take place in France from 10 June to 10 July 2016, thanks to the Sport + project and various initiatives related to the prize. The communication campaign will target not only host cities but also all of the 250 local authorities member of Efus.
Efus and the project partners encourage the French host cities of the Euro 2016 tournament to take part in and contribute to Sport +.
