For the first time, Poland won the European Crime Prevention Award (ECPA), with the “Safe senior” project implemented in Szczecin. The award was given on December 1st, 2010, during the Best Practices Conference organised in Brussels, in the framework of the Belgian presidency of the European Union.

The target group of this project is the elderly people, who are very often victims of fraud crimes, in Poland as elsewhere in Europe.

The prevention department of the city of Szczecin has developed, in partnership with the Third Age University Association, the Safe Senior Project, which aims to improve senior people’s awareness and feeling of security as well as to inform them of basic prevention measures. This project is structured around informational and educational campaigns, the organisation of workshops, meetings with the police, and the distribution of pocket alarms.

Efus congratulates the project leader for this award and for its pragmatic and useful initiative.
