In 1985, he was elected General Councillor of Alpes-Maritimes. In 1988, he was elected Deputy of the 5<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> district of Alpes-Maritimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After this initial stage of his career, in 1992 Christian Estrosi became the first Vice-President of the Provence-Alpes-C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur (PACA) Regional Council, serving Jean-Claude Gaudin.\u00a0 Re-elected as member of parliament in 1993 and 1997, he was also elected General Councillor of the district of Saint-Etienne-de-Tin\u00e9e, gaining more than 80% of the vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On 2 June 2005, Christian Estrosi became a member of the government of Dominique de Villepin as Deputy Minister of Territorial Planning, under the Minister of the Interior, Nicolas Sarkozy. After the election of Nicolas Sarkozy as President of France, Christian Estrosi was re-elected Deputy of the 5<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> district of Alpes-Maritimes, and, on 19\u00a0 June 2007, was named State Secretary in charge of overseas territories by the Presidency. On 18\u00a0 March 2008, he resigned his duties as State Secretary in charge of overseas territories to focus on Nice and its citizens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He was elected mayor of Nice on 21 March 2008, President of C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur on 18 April and member of parliament on 26 May 2008. From June 2009 to November 2010, he took on a new mission by joining the government of Fran\u00e7ois Fillon as Minister of Industry to the Minister of Economy, Industry and Employment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On 14 December 2010, Christian Estrosi returned to the National Assembly as MP for the Alpes Maritimes constituency, while still Mayor of Nice and President of Nice C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On 9 January 2012, he became the President of Nice C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur Metropole, the first \u2018m\u00e9tropole\u2019 established in France.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On 30 March 2014, he was re-elected Mayor of Nice, and on 11 April 2014, President of te Nice C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur Metropole.
