Security & Tourism conference and visit of the Paris nightlife scheme
About 120 representatives of 50 local and regional authorities from 16 countries as well as academics, representatives of the private tourism sector and six associations attended the conference “Security & Tourism: local policies and practices” organised by Efus in Paris on 25 June, the day after the General Assembly. “We must work to better receive tourists, who are temporary users of our cities, and to find means to improve coexistence between residents and visitors,” said the President of Efus, Guilherme Pinto. Attendees to the General Assembly were also offered the opportunity to take part in four study visits on the Paris nightlife scheme, during which the following themes were presented: the governance of the nightlife policy; prevention and risk reduction in party scenes; mobility, peace and security in social housing estates; managing festive public spaces and venues ...

Surveillance technologies and liberties: resolution of the Executive Committee
Gathered on the occasion of the General Assembly, on 24 June, the Executive Committee adopted a resolution about surveillance technologies and liberties. Elected officials member of Efus acknowledge that cities are increasingly using surveillance technologies and emphasise that these must contribute to greater transparency and citizen participation, and be used as part of global security strategies. The resolution also calls for giving more weight to local and regional authorities in the current European debate about the balance between technologies and freedoms ...
